Welcome

Emily Butler is a Registered Psychologist with good standing with the Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board. She is originally from Small Point, a rural community in Conception Bay North. While it’s physical footprint is as tiny as its names suggests, she is proud to have been raised in such a beautiful and scenic area of Newfoundland.
Emily has pursued a career as a Registered Psychologist as a means of working with children, youth, and young adults. Her kinship with her own high school guidance counselor stoked her desire to help a younger generation. After completing high school in Carbonear, she attended Memorial University which led her to complete a B.A. with a major in Psychology, a B.Ed (primary/elementary) with a focus in music, and a M.Ed (Counselling Psychology) giving her the academic prerequisite to be a registered psychologist.
Emily is familiar with the Newfoundland school system as she taught children, grades kindergarten to grade seven, in the Eastern region of the province for 5 years. She also has experience working with children diagnosed with special educational needs such as children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder as an inclusive support worker as well as an Applied Behavioural Analysis home worker for 2 years in early childhood settings.
More recently, Emily worked with other registered psychologists and researchers at Memorial University to explore the impact of early childhood on child development and special educational needs. She has worked with Dr. David Philpott, Dr. Sharon Penney, Dr. Kimberly Maich, and Dr. Gabrielle Young on this project which led to multiple publications. Please see Publications and Presentations HERE for a full listing.
Emily provides psychotherapy to children, youth, and young adults at or under the age of 25. Her areas of practice include individual, parenting, children (ages 5-12), teens (age 13-17), Young Adult (ages 18-25), ADHD, anxiety, depression, divorce and separation, emotional regulation, grief and loss, OCD, and self esteem and self worth.
Counselling services are provided by Emily through A Holding Place. Owned and operated by Helen MacKinnon, A Holding Place is located in St. John’s, NL. Please visit their website HERE for more information.
Psycho-Educational Assessments Emily provides psychoeducational assessments to children, youth, young adults, and adults. A psychoeducational assessment is often completed to investigate a client’s profile of strengths and needs, including the possibilities of underlying learning issues such as specific learning disorders.
Emily has worked with Dr. David Philpott, Dr. Sharon Penney, and Dr. Kimberly Maich in establishing a reputable private practice, specific to the field of psycho-educational assessments. To find out more, send Emily a message below.
